KOLB realises ‘3 to Go Pack’
for selling at P.O.S.
The picturesque town of Brackenheim, which is located right in the heart of the German wine-growing region of Württemberg, is the centre of Lemberger wine production and produces a range of top quality wines that have won numerous awards. Brackenheim winegrowers have been producing classy Rieslings, strong, aromatic Kerners, hearty Trollingers, rich Schwarzrieslings and, of course, special Lemberger wines since 1925. These premium wines are distributed using various sales channels such as specialist retailers and wholesalers, and by selling them directly to end consumers.
In doing so, the Brackenheim winegrowers always strive to match their wine offers to the prevailing season. Which is why, since the start of the year, specialist wine merchants have been stocking a so-called ‘3 to Go Pack, in which three different types of wine are combined into 3-bottle packs. These 3-bottle wine packs always comprise a range of wines specifically selected and combined to suit a diverse range of occasions. “Our wines have tradition and a high claim to quality and flavour. However, this claim must also be reflected in everything else we do as makers and sellers of wines that are representative of peoples’ good taste, and these things must also make people want good quality wines” was how Gerald Kunz, head of sales of Brackenheim’s Winemakers, explained the company’s competitive strategy. HANS KOLB Wellpappe, manufacturer of corrugated cardboard packaging solutions and specialist packaging solution developer, proved to be just the right partner for realising the Brackenheim’s Winemakers 3-wine bottle pack. This bottle pack, which was launched at the start of the year, can hold 3 x 1-litre wine bottles and features two cut out holes that enable it to be picked up at P.O.S. by two fingers only. Although specifically designed with women in mind, who don’t tend to like carrying heavy boxes and yet are spontaneous shoppers, these handy 3-packs have also been hugely popular with male consumers. Gerald Friedrich, Head of Packaging Development at KOLB, elaborated on the packaging solution as follows: “The features of the 1-litre bottles allow the entire bottle to be quite safely secured inside the packaging simply by securing the bottles’ neck. The necks of the 0.75 litre bottles, on the other hand, are quite straight, which is why the wrapping around the bottles’ heads had to be reinforced with an additional tray, which stabilises the wines from below.” The pack itself is very strong and easily able to hold the bottles’ combined weight, and can be really easily and conveniently removed form the P.O.S. display units from the back. The advertising space on the packs now proclaims the packs as ‘A whole carry case of good taste’, printed using Flexo Direct Print. “The three Wines To Go Pack is a real eye catcher and brand booster, while the combination of Bordeaux red and yellow on this pack matches our corporate colour scheme and therefore has great recognition value,” concluded Gerald Kunz.
