Corrugated cardboard - a material of the future Since October 1996, companies in Germany must comply with the regulations of the Substance Cycle and Waste Management Act. For KOLB, no new practices had to be introduced, as used corrugated cardboard has for many years been collected as a separate resource for which there is a great demand in the paper industry. Packaging made in corrugated cardboard is 100% recyclable more than once, and helps reduce the amount of waste for landfill. Compared with other packaging materials, corrugated cardboard is probably the one that meets all requirements regarding recycling.
 |
It consists exclusively of organic materials such as paper and starch, which are produced from renewable resources. No forests are felled to make corrugated board and no rainforests are destroyed to obtain paper and fibreboard, as two thirds of all corrugated cardboard packaging material produced in Germany is made from recycled paper. |
The materials that contain fresh fibres, such as kraftlliner and semi-chemical pulp are gained from waste timber produced in sawmills or thinning wood that cannot be used for any other purposes and would otherwise have to be disposed of through burning. Corrugated cardboard products are glued with natural starch-based adhesives and are printed with environmentally friendly organic inks. |
